Evoqua ETS UV Technology is used disinfect the municipal wastewater before discharge into a water source. The ETS-UV™ system uses a closed vessel approach, which means greater operator safety, a smaller footprint and easier for plant staff to maintain. The enclosed approach is quickly gaining favor over the older open channel UV systems because of reduced operating life costs and greater operator safety. The UV chamber is fabricated from 316L stainless steel and contains an automated wiper system that keeps the quartz free from fouling. The chamber also features an access hatch that makes routine maintenance much easier and convenient for operators. Each chamber contains either low pressure/high output or medium pressure lamps which can be removed with effluent in the UV chamber. The lamps use the Twist-LOK lamp connector for ease of connection. Municipal plants often achieve a two years of lamp life for low maintenance and operational costs.
Eenclosed Vessel UV Disinfection offers significant advantages over open channel including simple installation, floodproof, does not require complicated constant level controller, and energy efficient. These open, gravity flow channels suffer from many disadvantages; poor hydraulic mixing, very large footprint, expensive to build, difficult to maintain and are vulnerable to fluctuations in flow rate. Closed vessel ETS-UV disinfection systems are easy to install within existing pipework and new construction does not require the large footprint of concrete channels. Disinfection into a closed pipe will ensure optimized hydraulics and prevent the operator for exposure to the wastewater and UV light.
Ultraviolet (UV) irradiation is used for multifunctional purposes. UV is most commonly used as an environmentally friendly alternative to chemical disinfection. It’s one of the most effective methods for inactivating harmful pathogens such as Listeria, E.coli, Giardia and chlorine tolerant pathogens like Cryptosporidium. UV is also used for removal of organic and inorganic contaminants, including chlorine, ozone and Total Organic Carbon (TOC). UV used in conjunction with an Advanced Oxidation Process (AOP) will remove Compounds of Emerging Concerns (CEC’s), Synthetic Organics (SO’s), Endocrine Disruptor Compounds (EDC’s) and Personal and Pharmaceutical Care Products (PPCP’s), as well as various taste and odor compounds from water.
The ETS UVLW model range is a multi-lamp low-pressure high output amalgam reactor with lamps positioned parallel to flow. The model is validated in accordance to the NWRI Reuse Guidelines. The chamber has been designed with a unique hatch for access into the chamber, which is a valuable feature when disinfecting wastewater applications. The ETS-UV™ SW system is a medium pressure, multiple lamp, advanced disinfection system that is easily incorporated as retrofit or new construction applications. The system is designed with a unique hatch for access to the chamber and is prized for its ability to perform in harsh environments. Skid/container options and explosion proof packages available. This closed vessel system in many cases, is replacing open channel disinfection in wastewater and reuse applications.
